Mom Who Lost Limbs After Childbirth, Sues Hospital for Negligence

A mom from Canada gave birth to her first child, only to begin a battle for her life.

Lindsey Hubley, was a previously healthy woman before she delivered baby Myles on March 2, this year in Halifax, with her fiancé Mike Sampson, CBS News reported. But just four days later, Hubley became extremely ill and was rushed to the hospital.

The new mom was diagnosed with necrotizing fasciitis, more widely known as “flesh-eating bacteria” as doctors said her body was going into “severe septic shock,” according to a GoFundMe page set up by her family. After surgery, doctors put her in an induced coma in the intensive care unit where she began suffering multiple organ failures.

To keep Hubley alive, doctors performed multiple surgeries, including amputations of both arms and legs below the knee, according to the GoFundMe page. The page asked for $60,000 to help with medical costs, but as of writing on Tue, Oct. 17 they had received over $96,000.

But now the mom is taking legal action against the IWK Health Centre and several Halifax-area doctors after claiming that the doctors were negligent in their care during her childbirth and postoperative care.

“What Lindsey and her family have gone through over these past seven months is incomprehensible,” her attorney, Raymond Wagner, said in a press release. “She is truly a survivor, and remarkably has maintained a positive and determined attitude along her long road to recovery, all while juggling the struggles, and joys, of a newborn.”

Sampson said his Hubley has still managed to remain upbeat, despite the situation.

“Myles and I make our way to the hospital pretty much every day to see mama,” he told CTV News. “Our lives have been turned upside down.”

Hubley is now a quadruple amputee and has been forced to spend the first seven months of her son’s life in the hospital, CTV News reported.

Wagner later told CTV that part of the placenta was not removed at birth and that Hubley had a tear that required stitches, which could have contributed to the infection and health issues that followed.

In addition, it was alleged that doctors did not perform an examination on Hubley when she returned to the hospital complaining about cramps on March 5, the day after being discharged after giving birth. Instead, they diagnosed her with constipation and set her home, CTV reported.

Hubley stated that she made her claim public to help others, “If my story can help prevent even one person from going through what I have, and improve gaps in health care, then publicly discussing what happened to me will be worth it.”

As stated on heir GoFundMepage, Hubley is now luckily considered “critically stable” as she continues her battle in the intensive care unit.

“She has a long journey ahead of her that will include more surgeries, months of rehabilitation, and adjusting to a new way of life for her, Mike, and sweet Myles” they wrote. ‘We are thankful every day that Lindsey is still here and we look forward to the day she can head home to be with both her boys.

McDonald’s refuses elderly lady cup of water. Man in line notices why, doesn’t let it go—steps in

Jonathan Pengelly had a late night out and—craving fast food—found himself in the dreaded McDonald’s queue. But his wait took an unexpected turn when he saw an old woman, hunched and with graying hair, asking a staff member for a cup of hot water.

It caught Pengelly’s attention, because the staff member said no and then just dismissed her. Then he realized she was homeless, and “my heart was shattered!”

Feeling awful witnessing how she was treated, he told her to order whatever she wanted, on him. In her position, Pengelly would have ordered everything. That’s not what the woman did; she asked for a single cheeseburger, but he wanted to give her more.

He invited her to sit with him and then he learned her story—her name was Polly and she was “so full of life and enthusiasm,” and so educated, he shared on Facebook.

“I sat with her, on the cold hard floor, and you know what I did? I cried my eyes out,” Pengelly wrote.

“You know if people of Cardiff walked past them and didn’t do anything because, financially, they weren’t in the position, I would understand. But people walked past and laughed at them.”

Polly had a friend with her, and Pengelly invited both of them back to his house where they cooked up enough food that they could take away and share with friends for a few days, and shower and brush their teeth.

“I’m no saint, but this small act of kindness cost me about £20. I know 90% of people reading this will earn about 10 times that a day,” Pengelly wrote.

Moved to tears by his life-changing experience, Pengelly shared this encounter on Facebook hoping to ignite others’ kindness—and hundreds of thousands of people took notice.

“It costs nothing to be kind, and I genuinely hope people share this to raise awareness of homelessness throughout the UK!”

He didn’t just leave his act of kindness at that either—he has opened his home to Polly whenever she should need.

“Me and Polly have chatted on the phone and I’ve promised her that she will never go hungry or cold again! I’ve given her blankets, pillows and a backpack full of food,” Pengelly said.

People mocked mom for how she treated baby—and turned photo into a meme. Then truth was revealed

As we become more and more reliant on our smartphones, it’s easy to fear that we as a society might have our priorities in the wrong order—that our overuse of technology has replaced real human interaction.

One photo that went viral last year seemed to prove that it had.

It shows a woman at an airport, glued to her phone—and ignoring her baby, who was left on the waiting room floor.

Naturally, once the photo was online, the internet responded with indignant outrage. How can anyone be so ignorant, so distracted by their phone?

To hear them tell it, the photo was the epitome of everything wrong with the 21st century, a sign of the end, definitive proof that technology has made us all irreversibly dumb.

To really nail the point home, the photo was often paired with this quote by Albert Einstein:

But there’s another side to the photo.

First of all, that Einstein “quote” isn’t even real.

Second, the woman in the photo is a real person—Molly Lensing, from Illinois. The baby is her then-two-month-old daughter, Anastasia.

The photo was taken without her knowing by a stranger at a Colorado airport last year—and it’s been haunting her ever since.

“I absolutely feel as though my privacy was violated,” Lensing told Today.

Not only that, she says everything in the photo has a perfectly reasonable explanation.

Her story is so sympathetic, it will make you think twice about judging strangers online.

Lensing didn’t just show up at the waiting room and plop her baby on the floor to play Candy Crush, as is implied. On the contrary, the two had been waiting at that airport for 20 hours.

“We had the unfortunate luck of being stuck in the middle of the Delta computer shut-down,” Lensing told Today.

The mother had been holding the baby for so long, that they both needed a break.

“Anastasia had been held or in her carrier for many hours,” she explained.

“My arms were tired. She needed to stretch.”

So she let the baby stretch out on a blanket on the floor—which gave Lensing some time to contact her family, hence the phone.

“I had to communicate with all the family members wondering where the heck we were.”

That’s a situation any tired mother might find themselves in—but Lensing was just unlucky enough to be the one photographed.

When she discovered the photo went viral, she was most worried that it would affect her employment as a pediatric nurse.

“I had recently started working on a labor floor,” she told Today.

“I was terrified of my co-workers or boss seeing the photo and comments and believing that I should no longer work with infants.”

It could have happened. When we see a context-free photo like that, we often snap to make a judgement or feel self-righteous without thinking or having any empathy for the person whose life it is.

Photos of parents and children are often the target. Parents and childless people alike love to judge other people’s parenting skills, as if they’ve never been in a situation like that.

Ironically, the photo did ending up making a point about how technology dehumanizes us—just not in the way they intended.

But Lensing has just learned to let the haters roll off her back:

“I ignore the photos and the comments and lean on those close to me who know the real me,” she told Today.

“I am powerless compared to the internet, and I know that I am the best momma to my girls and I know that I cherish them and am raising them the best I can.”

Brother of Vegas Gunman Wanted by Police: Report

The brother of Las Vegas gunman Stephen Paddock is wanted by police for unrelated charges, it was reported.

Bruce Paddock, 57, is wanted in Los Angeles County for a slew of violations, TMZ reported, citing police records.

He was arrested for vandalism three years ago after he “jacked up a moving company’s property,” TMZ said. At the time, he plead no contest and got 150 hours of community service.

He didn’t show for a 2016 court date, and a judge issued a bench warrant.

Bruce has a long rap sheet, according to the website, which includes arrests for arson, burglary and criminal threats.

Bruce isn’t the same brother who gave a number of interviews to the media about Stephen following the shooting.

Stephen, 64, is accused of killing at least 58 and injuring hundreds more in a shooting spree on Sunday night at a country music festival.

“What we know is that Stephen Paddock is a man who spent decades acquiring weapons and ammo and living a secret life, much of which will never be fully understood,” Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo told reporters on Wednesday night, Reuters reported.

Lombardo said he found it hard to believe that the arsenal of weapons, ammunition and explosives recovered by police in their investigation could have been assembled by Paddock completely on his own.
“You have to make an assumption that he had some help at some point,” Lombardo said.

Before his Las Vegas attack, Paddock booked rooms in a Chicago hotel that overlooked the site of the August Lollapalooza music festival, USA Today reported on Thursday, citing an unnamed law enforcement official. It was unclear if Paddock ever used the room or was in Chicago during the festival, the newspaper quoted the official as saying.

“We are aware of the media reports and have been in communication with our federal partners,” Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said about the report.

Some 489 people were also injured when Paddock strafed an outdoor concert with gunfire on Sunday night from his 32nd-floor suite of the Mandalay Bay hotel on the Las Vegas Strip. He then took his own life.

Man walking along cliff top when he hears shouting from beach below—it becomes life or death rescue

Derek Shaw and his wife Ann were on vacation in the seaside town of Cromer in the east of England, and had decided to take a leisurely stroll along the cliff tops one morning, not expecting any drama.

But as the couple were walking along the coast path atop the 250-foot-high cliffs, they heard shouts coming from the beach down below.

Derek looked over and saw they were indicating something was stuck on the cliff just below him.

Derek peered over the edge of the cliff, and 6 feet below him was a dog.

Millie the border collie was missing for 21 hours before Derek spotted her. The pooch was in a precarious position, digging her paws and claws into the cliffside tightly so she wouldn’t fall.

Millie had spent the night there as she was unable to climb back up the steep cliff face.

Derek decided he had to mount a rescue.

“I love dogs and I just didn’t want to leave it there,” Derek told the Mirror Online. “It was only on a tiny ledge and it had dug its claws into the sand so it could cling on. It was just out of my reach and I couldn’t get it to move.”

So he lay down on the ground and stretched over the cliff to try and reach Millie.

Luckily, at that point, another couple also on vacation, came by, and grabbed hold of Derek’s ankles to stop him slipping over the edge!

“My wife and this other guy grabbed hold of my ankles to stop me going over. Then the dog seemed to sense that I was trying to help and stood up,” Derek said.

Millie finally got close enough for him to grab hold of her and pull her back up.

“Looking back it was probably a bit of a stupid thing to do,” said Derek, “but when you are a dog lover you do not think.”

The couple called the emergency services who were able to trace the owner of the dog.

The owner, Bobby, a local man, and his girlfriend Lauren were overjoyed to be reunited with Millie, who had gone missing the previous afternoon after being scared by another dog.

“We contacted the police, vets, dog wardens and radio stations. We also went round giving out posters and our numbers,” said Lauren, according to Eastern Daily Press.

“I just started crying when she came back,” said Lauren. “Her face when she saw me was lovely.”

Other than suffering from some mild dehydration, Millie went home to make a full recovery.

“I offered Derek money but he wouldn’t take it and we can’t thank everyone enough for the support in finding her,” said Lauren.

What an amazing rescue!

Man gave homeless woman a bunch of cash, but then he secretly follows her—shocked by what she buys

Youtube personality Kevin Tran, who hosts the K3TV show, does everything from social experiments to pranks on his channel.

Occasionally, though, things get a bit serious. Rather than going for the funny reactions, he tries to do some good for someone in need—which is exactly what he did in this case.

A woman was sitting on the side of a building in Santa Monica when the show’s host, Das, approached her.

She admitted, after brief conversation, that she was homeless.

That’s when Das offered her a gift; he handed her $283 cash, informing her that the money was to help her get through the day and hopefully keep her and her son from stretching themselves quite as thinly as they currently were.

At first, the woman wouldn’t take the money. “I can’t take this!” she insisted. “That’s too much.”

After some pushing, though, she agreed to accept the gift, asking for a hug and thanking the lord for her good fortune. He made her promise to spend it on something good, shook hands, and left her be.

Although Das pretended to leave, the show stayed behind to follow the woman and see where she opted to spend the money. Without her realizing it, the show trailed her all the way to first a clothing store, then a sit-down cafe where she grabbed some ice cream.

Although she did plenty of window shopping, the woman didn’t actually make any purchases. Instead, she wandered farther and farther into Santa Monica, ultimately turning down a street that didn’t seem to have any places for her to spend her cash.

When the show follower her more closely, they realized where she was headed.

The woman walked up to an animal shelter, heading inside while Das and the crew watched on in amazement. Forty-five minutes later, she walked out… carrying a small puppy in her arms.

“Hey!” Das approached her.

“We’ve been following you,” he explained. “We watched you skip over every clothing store, over every little… you adopted a dog with the money I gave you?”

The woman shrugged.

“Yeah,” she admitted. “I just… I don’t know. Out of everything that I’ve seen today, it seemed much more… caring to have a dog.”

She said she touched the clothes, but what really caught her eye was all the people walking around with dogs. It’s where her heart led her, she admitted. It led her to the puppy, which she can love and hold and talk to.

The show producers were so blown away that she’d passed over the material objects she could have spent her money on, instead bringing home another creature that needed love and companionship. They brought her to a pet store, buying her new friend food and supplies to make sure those first few nights together wouldn’t stretch her too thin.

They then gave her another financial gift, just to make sure she was well covered. All Das asked for in return was a hug—and as the woman cried with happiness, it became apparent that the pair were going to get along quite well. Sometimes, the best companion can be someone who doesn’t want something material—but instead, someone who hopes to have a positive impact on someone else in need, just like the homeless woman they met.

The unexpected twist to the story turned out to be incredibly touching.

As one commenter explained, “food can come everyday somehow but loneliness is horrible that’s why she got the dog so she won’t feel so alone.”

“She has been abandoned and forgotten by all of us. Instead of spoiling herself, she uses whatever she has to give another abandoned living thing someone to love and look out for them,” wrote another.
